The Lake Highlands Women’s League honored four members for 25 years of service to the community by inducting them into the Silver Circle. Joan Walne welcomed Ruth Adams, Carolyn Boll, Theresa Hejl, and Jo Baggett with commemorative pins as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the founding of the League by Barbara Hunt.

In an effort to remind the merry band of volunteers what life in the neighborhood was like when the League was founded in 1968, Paula Davis moderated a trip down memory lane with Billye McSpedden, who joined in 1969, and Jennifer White, who was born about then and joined in 2004. In addition to recalling which neighborhoods and shopping centers were still cotton fields and rolling plains, they remembered that the first scholarship of a few hundred dollars was given in 1970. On May 22, thirty LHHS students will receive $90,000 in college scholarships, and about $80,000 in community projects will be funded using proceeds from the LHWL’s annual Holiday in the Highlands home tour.
