Longtime Lake Highlands resident Carolyn Adams has been honored by the Music Teachers National Association as a teacher who has made a significant difference in the music world.  Mrs. Adams (as she is known to her pupils) has a special gift for bringing out the best in her students, both in her studio and during performances.  In addition to her full teaching schedule, Carolyn is a professional accompanist for local singers.

Carolyn says her proudest achievement is her son Rick Adams, who graduated from Lake Highlands High School.  He went on to Juillard and is currently a professional singer in musical theater.  He has sung on Broadway, and recently played the lead in the National Touring Company’s production of Phantom of the Opera.  Last year Rick married his leading lady from a previous show (Jekeyll and Hyde).  Recently Carolyn was excited to become a grandmother when Rick’s wife gave birth to Nathaniel Emmitt Adams.

The MTNA Foundation Fund supports projects such as national student competitions, and local association grants.  Although Carolyn’s friend, June Leondar in Fort Worth, won the honor two years ago, Carolyn Adams is the first Dallas resident to receive this award from MTNA.
