Lake Highlands United Methodist Church is sponsoring a unique community event called “Nothing But Nets.” On April 5, during the height of March Madness, the church will host a free-throw shooting contest in the church gym at 2 p.m.

Church organizations, Sunday School classes, and community groups will field free throw shooting teams, and those teams will recruit pledges for each shot made. The fund-raising effort is part of a worldwide campaign to reduce malaria.

“This will be a fun Sunday afternoon of fellowship and low impact basketball activity,” said organizer Greg Duval, who attends LHUMC. “I attended a similar event at a nearby church, and I knew it would be popular in here Lake Highlands. Various fundraisers have been scheduled which use nets in some fashion, and we think the community will come together to support us.”
