I’m sitting in a back booth at Coach’s Burgers, right next to the wall dedicated to the late Al Stevens, whom most neighbors knew as either the longtime volunteer concessions director at Moss Park, or as the 17-year director of Lake Highlands’ Festival of Drums and Bugles. There’s an electrical outlet right next to my booth, so I could stay here for hours working on my laptop with Internet access.

Even better, I’m having a cheeseburger, fries and a drink for $6.59, one of the restaurant’s four lunch specials (good from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). The same price appplies to the feta pesto burger or chili dog with fries and a drink, and the hamburger with fries and a drink is $5.99. Deals so good, I may be able to finish my meal, let it digest for a while as I work, then spring for the handmade strawberry shake — yum.

Not that you need additional reasons to support a Lake Highlands-owned and -operated business that serves consistently good food, but if you do, there’s two. If you need a third reason, just read or reread publisher Rick Wamre’s February column.
