Elsa, LHE science teacher Hilary Puckett and her son Mason and I hit Eat the World for our last scoop today at about 4 p.m.  It was rockin’ and rollin’, other folks doing the same as us.

Toby was so gracious and so touched by so many expressing regret at his closing, and wishing love and good thoughts for his new opening and impending surgery.  He had a loooooong list full of email addresses and promised to send to all when he reopens at Abrams/Royal.  He said he’s got the contract, he and his lawyer were going over it one last time this evening and it looks like a done deal.  He also said he thought a month and a half before he was back on his feet.  (Originally he was going to postpone the surgery but that’s back on track too).

I had a twenty in my purse, I spent $17 of it and got two dozen tamales (1/2 traditional pork and 1/2 black eyed pea/ham), a pound of chicken Italian sausage and three – no four – scoops.  Not that I wanted to take advantage of Toby but I was very happy to help him empty his cases at those prices.  And empty they were.

God Speed Toby, hurry, heal, and open again soon, we’re already missing your good food and your sweet nature.

Note to the police:  Toby said not only has he been the victim of too much crime on the corner of Audelia/Walnut Hill, but each and every one of his neighboring retailers have been as well.  Here’s a plea for help:  Please get our corner back on track!
