Interesting restaurant news for the neighborhood: The original Henderson Chicken is moving into the strip mall on the southeast corner of Abrams and Royal, according to blogger Pete Oppel. As Pete points out, the original Henderson’s was in the old State-Thomas area, when the area was a whole lot friskier than the cool Uptown it has become. The place was all about the basics: No drive-thru, no seating (there might have been a leaning post or two) and no fancy packaging — just a plain paper bag leaking grease from the tasty chicken. It looks like the new Henderson’s has gone a little upscale: I don’t remember the original having a logo, but the new one features a chicken looking a little happier than it should, considering the fate of its brethren. Anyway, according to Pete, the restaurant will be opening in about three weeks.
