A whole bunch of stuff you probably didn’t know about the food bank’s summer programs:
• More people are asking for food assistance this month, says the agency, thanks increasing prices for food and gas, and the agency is working to find more food and cash donations to keep up with the growing requests.
• Some of the food bank’s member agencies are seeing a 25 percent increase in the number of new clients seeking food assistance.
• Summer is, ironically, the "hungriest" season of the year, since school is out and kids do not get to eat as part of school breakfast and lunch programs.
• The food bank is continuing its Kids Cafe, an after-school meal and activities program. The food bank pays for the the program, which serves more than 1,000 children daily (up from 600 last year). They get breakfast, snacks and lunch and participate in a variety of activities.
All of which means the food bank needs donations: food and cash. (The link takes you to the group’s donations page, where you can give money via the cyber ether).
