I personally have an extreme aversion to malls (or shopping centers; whatever we’re calling them these days), but this Friday, June 13, NorthPark Center has a grand opening that might reel me in: Bookmarks, the new Dallas public library aimed at kids 12 and younger, will have its dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. (until 2:45 p.m.)

If you have kids to keep entertained during the summer months, Bookmarks is probably going to become a regular on your activities list. It’s filled with reading nooks, learning stations, laptops (with Wi-Fi), appealing artwork and plenty of programs and performances throughout the year. I’m planning on hauling my two boys over there, at least until the new library/black box theater at Lochwood and Garland near our house, opens up.

The library is located on Level One between NorthCourt and Center Park. Later today, I’ll update this post with photos of the new library — as soon as the PR person dumps them in my inbox — so please come back to see them.

Friday’s celebration will include face painting, clowns, comedy and stories, including a reading by Mayor Leppert. Any guesses as to what he’ll read?
