Seven of the notorious Scarecrow Bandits — who got their name from floppy straw hats and loose plaid shirts worn during holdups — have been apprehended and the chase went right through our neighborhood yesterday.
Several separate pursuits ensued yesterday morning — one of them ended at the Hilton Head apartment complex in Lake Highlands (Jupiter and McCree) where there were reports of a brief hostage situation.
Police arrested another suspect up the road at Walgreens (Jupiter and Northwest). Police aren’t releasing a lot of details about yesterday’s events, but this story pretty much covers the Scarecrow Bandit story as we know it to date. We’ve been hearing about them for several months at least. Apparently yesterday’s arrests thwarted a planned robbery — and police say they are confident it will bring the Bandit’s crime spree to an end.
