A shopping center called Wheatland Crossing, anchored by Target and Aldi, opened in the Red Bird area at the beginning of March. Since then, writes Shawn Williams, "I wonder is Wheatland Crossing masking a significant net loss of businesses in the area. A number of [new] tenants at Wheatland Crossing are simply packing up and moving down the street," leaving their old strip centers vacant.

One of the keys to making the Town Center work is bringing new retail to the area, and not just moving retail from other parts of Lake Highlands. Otherwise, nothing much has changed.
