Forest Whitaker will be giving a free talk at UT Arlington this week. If you’ve already seen his Academy Award-winning portrayal Ugandan Idi Amin in the “The Last King of Scotland,” then you already know how phenomenal this actor is. If you haven’t seen Whitaker’s work, rent the movie ASAP. Whitaker manages to pull of what most actors can’t: making you empathize with a brutal tyrannical monster.
Whitaker will be visiting the university as part of a lecture series based on various literature themes. This week’s talk is based on graphic novel “Maus: A Survivor’s Tale” and the theme will be prejudice.
The free talk is set for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., but seating is on a first-come-first-serve basis, so you’d better get there early. I know Arlington is a bit of a trek, but hey—it’s not every day you get to be up close and personal with an actor of his caliber.
