There are big girl panties and there are little girl panties, and you can’t run your life wearing little girl panties. Just isn’t sensible. They don’t fit adults properly.

If you’re going to get ahead, whether it be at home, at work, or in your love life, you need to strap on those adult panties and get down to business.

Such is the life philosophy of Lake Highlands-based marriage counselor and sex therapist Roz Van Meter, detailed in her aptly titled new book “Put Your Big Girl Panties on and Deal With It.”

“The little girl panties make the impulsive decisions and have a little more fun, but that’s not always a good thing,” Van Meter says. “My book’s about learning to say no to the little girl panties, and letting the big girl panties get behind the steering wheel. You have to shuck the procrastination panties, the anties in the panties, and get things together. ”

As far as self-help spins go, it’s a pretty imaginative metaphor for learning to act responsibly, and Van Meter says people have responded favorably, to the point where she’s considering a sequel.

“Some have suggested I write about big boy britches. We’ll see.”
