Halloween being upon us, I thought I’d bring up something really scary: Household Hazardous Waste.

A few too many times I’ve witnessed my alley neighbors dumping nasty things –basically in my backyard. I say…NO MORE! Hie on over to the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center!

We are incredibly blessed here in little ol’ Lake Highlands to have our own ‘backyard’ place to ditch our nasty old outdated paints, insecticides, motor oils and generally bad chemicals. Right around the corner too. Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center, 11234 Plano Road, 214 553-1765. No website but here’s the scoop:

Closed Mondays, Fridays and Sundays
Open Tuesday 9a-7:30p, Wednesday 8:30a-5p, Thursday 8:30a-5p, and the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month, 9a-3p.

Plano Road north past Miller (coming from Walnut Hill), first right turn just past the railroad tracks.

They’ve got a long list of what you can bring (a whole lot) and a short list of what you can’t (like radioactive stuff, duh). Give ’em a call. Make it an adventure: Round up the kids, put on your gloves and aprons and load up your old paint and anti-freeze. They’re really nice guys who…are you paying attention…unload it out of your car! And they’re genuinely happy that you’re bringing them your ugly stuff. They’ve got a vested interest in their earth, just like you.
