Whether or not you have big plans, I suggest that at some point during its eight-hour run tomorrow, you drop by the Taste of Lake Highlands event in the Lake Highlands High School parking lot. (Preferably when you’re hungry — the food vendors included are Chipotle, Eat the World, Eatzi’s, Highlands Cafe, Hog Wild, Picasso’s and Waffle House.)
The event is a fundraiser for the Lake Highlands band, but admission is free. All you have to pay for is tickets for food and entertainment, like the bounce houses and celebrity dunking booths.
Speaking of, I gave organizer Sherman Burns a call just now to ask whom the celebrities are. It turns out LHHS principal Bob Iden, athletic director and head football coach Scott Smith, and perhaps even District 10 Councilman Jerry Allen will be the starting lineup. "I don’t know if Jerry’s doing it or not. I”ve been giving him grief," Burns says. The dunkees also include band director Jeff Bradford and all kinds of LHHS coaches and teachers.
Marlena Chavira-Medford (the editor of our Preston Hollow and Far North Dallas magazines) and I will be there to judge the food competition and pass out some Advocate freebies. The event lasts from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and includes all-day performances by LHHS student groups and neighborhood dad bands, like the PitPops and Wes Niles and the Texas Skeeters. You can find the schedule here.
