Kasey Jones-Parker has the best job in the entire world. At least, that’s what she says.

The Lake Highlands resident teaches art at Berkner High School in Richardson ISD. With a master’s in painting and photography under her belt, Jones-Parker leads by example in her classroom, creating her own artwork during class so her students can see art in progress.

“I think it helps to show students what you can do,” she says. “It shows them the process.”

Her most recent pieces came from a project she assigned to her advanced classes. Each student was instructed to use black and white photography and two uncommon materials to make something. To give them an idea, Jones-Parker created her own piece using photos, sheets of metal and neon lights.

She incorporated photos of motorcycles as a gift for her husband, who sold his bike to make more time for family. “All artwork has to have a reason behind it,” she says, “or else it doesn’t mean anything.”

This is a lesson, along with many others, that she’s hoping to teach her students.

“You can see them think outside of the box and just really change their world,” she says.
