The hit of last summer was no doubt the addition of the sprayground to the North Lake Highlands Recreation Center. Weary parents and languishing children piled in by the droves to be reinvigorated by its cool waterfalls and splashing fountains. But the Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League isn’t through with our neighborhood’s recreation center yet. This year, they’re collaborating with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department to build a mile-long loop trail, connecting the playground area near Fieldcrest to the sprayground and playground along White Rock Trail. The new loop also will tie into the city’s hike and bike trail system. Funding will be provided by the league’s April fun run; neighbors can register at runontexas.com or lhjwl.org. Construction should begin in fall 2007, but the grounds will begin to see improvements even before that. The Lake Highlands Women’s League and the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands have teamed up to fund a pavilion, designed by respected Dallas architect Frank Welch, and will soon break ground near the building. All three groups say they have joined forces to renovate the entire recreation center area. How’s that for neighborly teamwork?
