At Szechwan Pavilion, you can have all the Chinese food you can eat for a song…the buffet is $6.25 at lunchtime and $8.25 at dinner. And you can even have a song of another sort throw in.
Jane Wang owns the restaurant with her husband, John, who prepares most everything served. But Jane keeps things cooking in the front, too, making sure her customers are happy and chatting it up with the regulars.
She’ll even sing a song from her native Taiwan if you ask, explaining the meaning of the words as she goes.
The couple has owned the restaurant for 15 years. But Jane has been working the crowds in restaurants much longer, singing for customers of her parents’ restaurant when she was just 5 years old.
“Some buffets are much bigger than ours,” she says. “But we do it all ourselves, and we focus on freshness and tradition. Everything is prepared traditionally.”
Even the dinner entertainment.
