Stuart Satullo was nine years old when he started playing football. Then the years blew by and before you could say “first down,” the fourth grader was in highschool and headed down the field with his fellow Lake Highlands Wildcats.
Now it’s time to turn from a Wildcat into a Bulldog. Stuart, a recent LHHS graduate, was awarded a full scholarship to play football at Yale University.
But lest you think he is just another “dumb jock,” take a look at Stuart’s academic record. He graduated in the top 10% of his class, was a member of the National Honor Society, a Mu Alpha Theta math honor society member, and UIL Academic Award winner.
But wait, there’s more. Stuart was also a two-year starter at defensive end, was named an all-district performer, and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
So how did Yale University find out about a great kid like Stuart? According to him, scouts for the Yale University football program took notice of his superior athletic abilities last fall. “They first saw me playing on film,” says Stuart. “Later one of the coaches visited the school to watch us play.”
Clearly, they were impressed with what they saw. Stuart says that although he had not planned on applying to Yale, he is very happy to have the chance to attend the impressive institution on a full scholarship. He had considered attending various colleges outside Texas, so he is not apprehensive about moving so far from home.
He is still somewhat undecided about his major at Yale. “I am planning to major in either business or law enforcement,” he says.
When asked if he has any plans to go from the Ivy League to the National Football League, Stuart laughs. “I don’t think that’s going to happen,” he says. Who knows?
Stuart is obviously a hard working guy who makes people take notice. And wherever he lands, his friends, family and teammates already consider him in a league of his own.
