Thirteen Lake Highlands residents and organizations will be honored, along with almost 200 others, at the 19th Annual Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Awards April 12 at noon. The annual luncheon celebrates volunteerism and honors outstanding efforts on behalf of the City’s many nonprofit agencies.

“Volunteers are truly the heart of this community,” says Julie Thomas, executive director of the Volunteer Center.

Lake Highlands nominees include: Rita Boyer; White Rock Center of Hope; Club 56/Fellowship Bible Church Dallas, JAF Ministries; William Davidson, The Greater Lakewood Shepherd’s Center; Joan and Elly Feldman, Parkland Health and Hospital Systems; Rene Hernandez, Hexter Elementary School; Bob Johnston, My Guardian Angel; Howard Kincaid, Richardson Junior High School; Gerri Martin, Family Outreach of East Dallas, Inc.; Presby Pen Pals, Vickery Meadow Improvement District; Lindsay Russell, March of Dimes; Surgery Waiting Room Volunteers, Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas; and Gladys Watford, Desk and Derrick Club of Dallas.

More than 1,300 guests are expected to attend this inspiring event to be held at the Hyatt Regency Dallas. Nine nominees from various categories will be presented with crystal awards; Ramona Logan and Brad Wright from Channel 5 will present videos featuring the winners’ volunteer contributions.

The Volunteer Center of Dallas County sponsors the event, which is underwritten by Alcatel, The Dallas Morning News, Hyatt Regency Dallas, IBM Corporation, NBC5, Northrop Grumman, TCI and Texas Instruments.
