I cannot begin to tell you how fortunate I feel to live and represent the Lake Highlands area. We have so much going for us and the addition of Dr. Bob Iden as the principal at Lake Highlands High School is just icing on the cake. I am sure that no one missed it, but LHHS being named one of our nation’s outstanding high schools in U.S. News and World Report does not happen without Dr. Iden. Don’t get me wrong, we had a great high school before his arrival, but someone had to take the time and energy to make sure that the application for this honor was filled out and our many strong points revealed. Only then did the reviewers realize that we were something special. Thank you, Dr. Iden, class of ’74 LHHS, for bringing a great honor to Lake Highlands and congratulations to fabulous staff.
You may have remembered several issues ago my warning you that the Dallas police were going to start enforcing the underage drinking law more aggressively. Since this is written a month ahead of the publishing date, the news of the bust in Deep Ellum was in this morning’s news. The story revealed that the children were primarily from Highland Park, but it was also disclosed that other area children had had the same type of warehouse parties and the writer mentioned Lake Highlands directly. As we close in on another graduation season, I beg the parents of our area to obey the law. Do not think that you do our children a favor by providing kegs of beer and transportation to drink it. My greatest fear is attending a funeral of an alcohol-related tragedy-and what would you do if you had contributed to it happening?
But, back to the great area in which we live. The Exchange Club of Lake Highlands will be having their annual fundraising dinner and auction this year on March 27. This year’s event will be at the Le Meriden Hotel in downtown Dallas and benefits the scholarship fund, so don’t miss it. If you would like more details, give me a call at 972-783-7376.
Hopefully, in a couple of years, we can jump on DART light rail and ride downtown from our choice of three stations in District 10. In case you haven’t noticed, Miller and LBJ, Forest and Schroeder, and Floyd and LBJ are all under construction for new DART stations. Just another great reason to live in LH.
