The Exchange of Lake Highlands has helped 20 neighborhood students with their college dreams by awarding scholarships totaling $35,440.
Funds for awards to graduating seniors from Lake Highlands High School were provided by the clubÕs annual charity dinner, and by individual contributions from Lake Highlands residents.
ÒThe club really works hard to get funds for these,Ó says club member Don Lee.
This is the 18th year the scholarships have been presented. Exchange Academic scholarships were presented to Amanda Camp, David Chan, Aaron Finnin, Christy French, Sarah Harmon and Jonathan Kim.
Ann McNutt and Jared Oehring received Henry Wichmann Memorial Scholarships. Sarah Loaring-Clark received the Dorothy Hodges Memorial Scholarship, and Sergio Castillejos received the Melinda Lee Memorial Scholarship.
Exchange Club Working Student Awards were presented to Tamara Fields, Nataleigh Jimison and Rick Valdez. Jennifer Alexander and McKay Heim received Achievement Awards.
Jason Ogelesby Memorial Scholarships were given to Darron Burks, Patty Mondragon and Stephanie Underwood. The Neal Smith Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Kipp Collins, and the R. Kent Ackmann Sr. Scholarship was awarded to John Palmer.
The Exchange Club also has named the Youth of the Year from LHHS. Graduating seniors Elizabeth Reap and Preston Young received plaques and $1,000 savings bonds.
Reap, who was senior class historian and an officer of the Girls Service League, will attend Texas Christian University. Her parents are John and Charmain Reap.
Young, a Wildcats football player and member of the Student Council, will attend Texas A&M. His parents are Stephen and Janet Young.
Both students were selected by an Exchange Club committee based on essays, academic achievement and community involvement.
