Holly Crenshaw didn’t have much experience in the fudge business. Then last summer, the neighborhood resident and Texas A&M senior created a marketing campaign to promote Bethphage’s annual “Bethfudgies” fund-raiser.

“I got to apply my creativity to a unique project that’s really going to happen,” Crenshaw says.

Bethphage, an agency that serves people with developmental disabilities, hired Crenshaw with grant money provided by the Exxon Community Summer Jobs Program. Each year, Exxon provides grants to 75 Dallas County nonprofit agencies to offer college students paid internships. The program is administered by the Volunteer Center of Dallas County.

A listing of 1998 participating agencies, internships titles and contracts will be available after Feb. 4. To request a list, send a self-addressed stamped envelope to the Volunteer Center, 1215 Skiles, Dallas 75204.

To be eligible for the program, students must be full-time college students who have finished their freshman year, and who are planning to return to college full time in the fall. Students must contact individual agencies to view job descriptions and schedule interviews.
