An Oct. 1 opening date is set for a new lounge bar near White Rock Lake run by two stalwarts of the Dallas music, art and entertainment world.
It is called Here. (“Meet me at Here. Where? Here.” Definitely confusing. Certainly intentionally so.)
The new bar by Julie Doyle — the co-founder, singer, manager of Polyphonic Spree and wife to the band’s frontman Tim DeLaughter — and the swaggering and talented former Hagfish drummer Tony Barsotti (most recently lauded by the Observer as a designer of furniture, props and lamps, techs for photographers and, “oh yeah, dirt bikes”) promises to “whisk guests away into another place and time,” according to a Sept. 6 press release.
“The room features a beautiful, mammoth wall, designed by Barsotti, inspired by the lounges that existed on airplanes back in the 1970s, and a large photo mural by Rainer Judd, daughter of artist Donald Judd, adds a touch of Marfa to the space.”
While not on our Lake Highlands side of the lake, Here will inhabit a space at 9028 Garland Rd., an area Doyle describes as “growing but under-serviced area surrounding the Arboretum and White Rock Lake,” destinations frequented by Lake Highlands and East Dallas residents alike.
The menu will be executed by Micah Killough (Common Table, HG Supply Co.) and features Southern-inspired sharable small plates like Deviled Eggs, Pimento Cheese and Fried Chicken Confit; entrees such as Shrimp and Grits and Chicken Fried Akaushi Ribeye; and sides like Cauliflower Hash and Honey Balsamic Roasted Brussels Sprouts. Craft cocktails are designed by Omar Yeefoon.Serving as general manager will be Julie Moore, who worked most recently at Times Ten Cellar, but logged many years with pub impresario Peter Kenny.The lounge will also feature live music, but executed in a casual, organic fashion, without a stage. Doyle and Barsotti say they want people to feel a certain way when they come in, whether it’s the house music or a live performance.HERE will be open Tuesday-Wednesday 4 p.m.-midnight, Thursday-Saturday 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-3 p.m. for brunch, and from 4 p.m.-midnight.
It replaces the Cycling Center and sits between Margie’s Wig Salon and the Kitchen Recording Studio.
