It’s time for a long weekend of family, friends and fireworks as the neighborhood prepares for the annual Fourth of July extravaganza. Exchange Club once again hosts this patriotic bash, which steps off at 9 a.m. from North Highlands Bible Church on its way to the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center. Recent Lake Highlands High School retiree Karen Clardy will lead the parade to a carnival with games, food and live music. To celebrate America’s birthday, here’s a look back at past Fourth of July fun in the neighborhood.

In terms of fireworks, the Old Lake Highlands Neighborhood Association recommends gathering on Peavy Road between Van Dyke and Edgelake for a good view of some of the area’s patriotic pyrotechnics.
