Doctors Hospital has a new name, with a newly debuted sign that reads Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – White Rock, part of the merge between two local medical power players.
In total, Baylor Scott & White Health and its affiliate Tenet Healthcare Corporation have partnered to operate five hospitals in North Texas, including what was Doctors Hospital. Baylor officials were not able to immediately answer the Advocate’s questions about how the merger will impact patients or staff at the 218-bed hospital that has been serving the White Rock Lake area since 1959 – we’ll post an update when we hear back.
The move does stitch the local hospital into a much larger medical system that now includes 48 hospitals, 6,000 active physicians and 40,000 other employees. Baylor Scott & White Health is the largest nonprofit healthcare provider in the state with total assets of $9 billion.
Doctors Hospital has had its ups and downs in recent years. After receiving a D grade for safety from a national health agency in 2012 and a slew of mediocre reviews, the hospital put additional efforts into its patient safety and raised that grade to an A by 2013.
“Operating under the Baylor Scott & White name reflects our renewed commitment to providing the East Dallas community with the quality, compassionate health care it deserves,” says Jay Krishnaswamy, chief executive officer of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – White Rock said in a press release.
