Anyone who has lived here long enough has witnessed or knows tales of Dallas Police officers sitting in wait at White Rock Lake to ticket cyclists who fail to stop at Stop signs. Cyclists’ behavior, including the failure to stop at intersections, has been a topic of much contention in Lake Highlands and the White Rock area. Now, some residents and council members in one major city (that pioneer of progressive urban policy, San Francisco) are working to pass a Bike Yield Law, by which a person on a bike is allowed to approach a stop sign, check for conflicts with drivers and people on foot, then roll through without coming to a complete halt—essentially treating it as a yield sign. Proponents site a study indicating the yield method is actually safer than stopping — whaaaatttt?! …
