A child was killed in a hit-and-run accident last night in the Vickery Meadow area of Dallas, which closely neighbors Lake Highlands. So far, the name of the victim is being withheld, because she is a minor.

The victim is a 7-year-old girl, we were told by an operator upon contacting the hit and run division of the Dallas Police Department.

The victim and a friend were playing on a grassy intersection of Hemlock and Melody Lane at about 9:30 last night, according to a police report.

The child reportedly ran into the street when a northbound driver in a black 2008 Chrysler hit her. Witnesses report seeing the victim “fly into the air landing on the roadway,” according to the police report.  They also report that the driver fled the scene. A private citizen drove the child to Presbyterian Hospital where she died from her injuries, according to the police report.

A detective told me that police have the vehicle impounded but that they do not have a suspect in custody. He said he cannot comment on the case yet and that police probably would not have a statement until tomorrow. We were referred to Sergeant Jerry Sanchez, the department supervisor, and hope to have a comment from him sometime soon.
