Forest-Audelia carjacker targeted off-duty officer

Early Wednesday morning an attempted carjacking resulted in a struggle and a stolen weapon …

It’s 1 a.m. and a single female is sitting at a traffic light in one of Dallas’ crime hotspots, which happens to be right here in Lake Highlands, Forest Lane and Audelia.

A would-be carjacker approaches her car with a knife. But she just happens to be an off-duty police officer. Now I wish I could tell you she pulled her weapon and held the creep at gunpoint until the working cops arrived, but things apparently didn’t go so smoothly.

From what I can gather from a brief in the Morning News, she pulled her weapon, fired at the suspect who somehow managed to make off with the 357 semi automatic handgun, according to a vague police report, and $16.

The officer, Sgt. Stormy Magiera, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene and we don’t know if the assailant sustained any injuries.

We started with a carjacker armed with a knife.  Thanks to his good fortune in selecting an off-duty cop to carjack, we now have a carjacker armed with an $800 police pistol.  It doesn’t sound like the police are helping stem the tide of crime.

Word around my neighborhood (which is right by the scene) is that there is way more to this story — which there must be — but since it is under investigation, we can’t get any kind of statement at this point.
