Dallas Theater Center billboards are drawing questions from kids and protests from moms.

Email inboxes of Lake Highlands mommies are buzzing this week with this photo from Dallas billboards. No, it’s not an ad for Condoms-To-Go, it’s a promo for Dallas Theater Center’s spring production of Cabaret.

“It’s not just the sexually inappropriateness that bothers me,” said Kelley Newcomer, a Dallas physician. “We all see that on other billboards daily. It is the violent nature that really bothers me.” When she passes the signs at 635 & Preston and at Forest & the Tollway, her thirteen year old asks her, “Mom, why is that man doing that to her?”

Newcomer emailed friends to share her shock and displeasure, and she invited them to email their opinion to the DTC. Her message has been forwarded to church groups, PTAs and address books far-and-wide. Newcomer wants the billboard posters taken down.

In the meantime, Cabaret runs at DTC until May 22. Moms say they’ll find another route or get creative distracting kids in the backseat until the show closes or the posters come down.
