Take a moment to read the Op-ed article in today’s Dallas Morning News written by Lake Highlands resident, Donna Halstead. In her call for the community to register as organ donors, Donna shares her experience in observing her own family’s difficult choice. When her niece’s son was pronounced brain-dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, they opted to donate his organs. The lives of three people were saved, and Donna’s family now has three extended families who are immeasurably grateful for the gift of life.

Donna has often been in the news, taking strong stands in her years as a Dallas City Council member and current president of the Dallas Citizens’ Council. In telling her personal story, she shares her experiences with a subject we should all be discussing with our families.
