The Lake Highlands wrestling team went to the UIL state wrestling championships this past weekend at the Delco Center in Austin. Three Wildcats – all juniors -faced stiff competition from around the state: Robby Penny 135 pounds, Ebrima Njie 215 pounds, and Isaac Grieder 160 pounds.
Grieder, son of State Wrestling Hall of Fame’s Pete Grieder, coach of the Wildcats, made it all the way to the finals before losing 5-4. This is Isaac’s second year to place at state – he was sixth in his weight class in 2008 and now holds the second place slot.The team has now completed the season with a record of 27 and 6. They were crowned District Champions for the 17th time out of the last 19 years and expect another strong showing next year, with most of the young team returning.
