If you spot a sunburned co-worker in your office today, there’s a good chance he was at the St. Patty’s Day parade this weekend. Many winter-pasty parade goers had their first brush with that Texas sun while standing curbside on Greenville, and they have the red faces to prove it.
This year’s shindig was pretty much the same shenanigans as always: lots of drunk people riding around in homemade floats promoting some bar—not exactly the makings of legitimate Irish parade, but an opportunity for people-watching none the less. My personal favorites were the bagpipe players, just about the only Irish-oriented facet of the entire parade succession. The runner-up was the guy decked out in green riding the 1800s bicycle with the huge front wheel. Did anyone else see that guy? I also got a kick out of the few celeb impersonators I spotted, like the guys who dressed up as The Beatles. There were also some familiar faces on a few of those floats, such as Sheriff Lupe Valdez. And of course, all the neighborhood dog-lovers had their pooches out in full force, some even sporting green.
If you didn’t make it out to the parade, but you still want to celebrate the holiday, several spots are hosting St. Patty’s Day Festivities tonight. Trinity Hall, the Tipperary Inn, The Dubliner, and Idle Rich are just smoe of the Irish taverns that have celebrations planned for tonight. So put on some green, order up some bangers and mash, and have a happy St. Patrick’s Day.
