Richardson ISD will be closed for the rest of the week after considering the forecasts of continued extreme winter weather.

There will be no classes — virtual or face-to-face — this week, and RISD will remain closed.

“Administrators determined that extending the closure through the end of this week is necessary for the safety and well-being of all students and staff,” reads an RISD Facebook post.

Even while accessibility to RISD campuses and buildings is restored, the district estimates it will take at least one day to ensure buildings are prepared to welcome students back, per the post.

With continued blackouts and power outages, the district believes it would be challenging for students and teachers to engage in virtual learning this well.

Due to additional minutes of instruction that were added to the current school year calendar, RISD does not anticipate having to make up snow days by using bad weather days already on the April calendar.
