The Dallas Police Department’s Northeast Division is hosting a benefit for the family of officer Mitchell Penton.

The 27-year-old officer, who was on the force to two years, died after he was struck by a car while directing traffic on Central Expressway on Feb. 13. Officer Penton leaves behind a wife who is pregnant with their first child.

A candlelight vigil has held in Penton’s honor on Feb. 19 and funeral services occurred Feb. 22.

The neighborhood now has the opportunity to support Penton’s family through this difficult time at a drive-thru benefit on March 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 9915 E. Northwest Highway.

To participate, attendees can write checks made payable to Assist the Officer (ATO). In the memo section of the check, write “Officer Penton.” The family is also accepting gift cards from Target, Central Market/HEB and Visa.
