Batting gloves from neighborhood-based Cuero Gloves can be found on the hands of baseball players in both Lake Highlands and Latin America.
The business, which also offers cycling gloves, came to life around four years ago by former cyclist and LHHS ‘85 grad Jason Moore. Since then, Cuero Gloves has supplied gloves for the LHHS baseball team and baseball academies across the globe.
One of the first batting gloves Moore created was for his son’s team. This eventually led Cuero Gloves to supply batting gloves for the LHHS baseball team.
“Coach [Andy] Parker was my son’s pitching coach before he was hired as the Lake Highlands High School baseball coach,” he said.
Cuero Gloves has designed and supplied around 144 gloves for Wildcat baseball players over the last three years, Moore said. The team can expect new gloves for the spring season come January.
Local travel baseball organization Next Level Sports Group also uses Cuero Gloves, Moore said. The business’ outreach extends outside the U.S. to the German Professional Baseball League and baseball academies across Latin America and in the Domincan Republic.
“I’ve got players in multiple levels of independent professional baseball and minor league baseball wearing our gloves as well,” he said. “So we’re all over the place.”
Cuero Gloves does not create individual custom gloves, but teams, high schools and booster clubs are welcomed to reach out with a logo in mind. Moore will create mockups with the logo and color scheme options.
“We really reserved this for organizations and teams,” he said.
While Cuero Gloves travel to a range of countries, Moore said the business is proud to be rooted in Lake Highlands.
“We put on our website that these tools are designed in Texas, and we’re very proud of our Texas and Lake Highlands heritage,” he said.
