This time of year, members of Lake Highlands Women’s League are usually busy preparing four houses for visitors at their traditional Holiday in the Highlands home tour. The 2020 pandemic spoiled their party, but they haven’t stayed home to cry in their eggnog.
More than 85 members fanned out across the neighborhood last week – masked and ready. They completed a variety of projects for agencies and nonprofits serving countless needs in the community. The women collected baked goods and pantry items for LH-area police and fire stations, hosted a drive-thru parade for elderly residents of Audelia Manor, sorted donated food and diapers at Pamper Lake Highlands, decorated Thanksgiving baskets stuffed with turkey and trimmings for families in apartments communities, assembled 240 bags for seniors to be delivered on Christmas Day, sorted donated clothes, food and toys at Network of Community Ministries, and put together care packages for homebound individuals at Meals on Wheels.
Despite the cancellation of the 42nd annual home tour, LHWL’s commitment to provide college scholarships to Lake Highlands High School seniors and funds to LH-area schools and nonprofits is a strong as ever. If you’d like to contribute and help them meet their goal, you may donate online here to “The Tour That Wasn’t.”
