COVID-19 is a tough concept to grasp, but children must be particularly confused. They’ve stopped going to school, they’re forbidden from playing with friends and adults around them seem anxious and out-of-sorts.
Lake Highlands High graduate Robin Davis, a Child Life Specialist at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, created a video to help her young patients understand the pandemic. Her target audience was the preschool and school-aged kids in the renal wing where her work is focused, but the hospital liked it so much they are sharing it widely. If you’re like me and you don’t know the difference between a carbohydrate and a capillary, you, too, may find Davis’ non-scientific jargon and bright graphics helpful.
