Happy Census Day

April 1 is National Census Day, and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Adam McGough is getting the word out by joining a contest with his fellow Dallas City Councilmembers. The rep who can prove he/she has had the most constituents complete their census form earns bragging rights and a $500 donation to the charity of their choice.

First, hang an American flag in front of your home or a drawing of one in your front window before noon today. This will remind your neighbors to complete their census, and families can go on a Flag Scavenger Hunt together.

Next, go online here using the information mailed to you or left on your door and take 5-10 minutes to complete your census form. When you’ve finished, take a screen shot of your census confirmation page and email that to Christie Myers at christie@imaginedallasinc.org. Entrants from April 1 and 2 will be entered into a drawing, and the winner will have D10 goodies delivered by the councilmember himself – using social-distancing techniques, of course.

When every citizen of Lake Highlands and Hamilton Park is properly counted, McGough says, billions of dollars in federal funds will be funneled into our neighborhood for schools, roads, fire stations, libraries, health clinics and other critical public services. The census will also determine the number of seats each state has in Congress and our political representation at all levels of government. All information shared on the census form is secure and confidential.
