Before Garland Road became one of the coolest streets in Dallas with restaurants like Goodfriend, Hello Dumpling and 20 Feet Seafood Joint, there was the Texas Trap, a seedy bar that one neighbor said, “always looked like a place that you might get hurt.”

The photo, posted on Facebook by Flashback Dallas, shows the Texas Trap after it had sat vacant for years. The post states:

Going through some old photos, I came across this one I took a few years ago of the Texas Trap. It had been vacant for several years when I pulled into the empty parking lot and took this picture. Kind of wish I’d stopped in when it was open.

Although the bar at the intersection of Peavy at Garland roads was a little rough around the edges, neighbors had fond memories that they shared on Facebook.

The building is now home to Hello Dumpling, Goodfriend and 20 Feet Seafood. Those restaurants ushered in a hip, classy-dive vibe that is markedly different from the Texas Trap.
