RISD Seniors:

We hope this letter finds you well. The circumstances we find ourselves in have been some of the most challenging we have all faced. The hardest part is the unknown. As we began the spring semester of your senior year, each of us had a vision of all the great things that lie ahead. All of us entered this semester with excitement and great anticipation for the many celebrations we would share. Unfortunately, our current reality leaves us in a different place. We are living in a historic moment. Our silver lining is that decisions made at the local, state, and federal levels have been made to assure our long term health and safety. This does not change the fact that we are saddened certain traditional experiences are in jeopardy.

Throughout our time away from school, it has been our goal to provide each of you with as much information as possible. At this time, we do want to reach out to you and let you know that hard decisions have been made about prom at all four high school campuses. With a tremendous amount of thought and consideration, we are left with the decision to cancel prom at all four high schools. This announcement comes with a great deal of disappointment, but all factors considered, for the safety of our students, it is the right decision at this time. If there is any way possible that we will be able to have prom, even if it is at a smaller venue, we will make that decision with you, our seniors, once we return back to school.

We continue to find ourselves in a difficult place of unknowns. It is our wish that no other senior event will be impacted in the same way. Your health and safety will remain at the forefront of district and campus decisions that are made. What we can assure is that we care about you very much, and we want to honor all of the hard work that has gotten you to this point. We will keep you informed about future events as soon as decisions are made.

We wish you the best of luck as we begin our at-home learning, and please know that all of our staff members are here to support you through this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Kristy Cage, BHS
