DPD’s Kim Mraz chats with children at Wallace Elementary

Homeowners associations (HOAs) across Lake Highlands will host neighborhood events Oct. 1 as part of National Night Out, founded 36 years ago to promote partnerships between law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups and volunteers. Last year, NNO founder Matt Peskin flew into Dallas from his home in Pennsylvania to attend a NNO gathering in Lake Highlands Estates, and he told residents there his original goal is as worthwhile as ever. When caring neighbors look out for each other, he said, communities are safer and families are happier.

On the evening of Oct. 1, LH Square will be on Winding Ridge from 5-7:30, Woodbridge will gather from 6-9, White Rock Valley will host bounce houses and face painters from 5:30-7:30 and Tri-Alliance neighbors will gather in Arbor Park for Snuffer’s burgers. In the Forest-Audelia Shopping Center, Project Safe Neighborhood is hosting a larger event with the LH North Public Improvement District. They’ll have music, food, games, giveaways and first responder vehicle demonstrations.

You can view a longer listing of Dallas’ registered NNO events here, and check your own HOA for details in your neighborhood.
