Pickleball, the sport they play, is exploding in popularity with a 650 percent increase in numbers over the last six years. It has become so popular in Dallas that indoor courts are overcrowded, with few outdoor options available.

So, the group started a petition to paint pickleball lines on four public tennis courts — two at Ridgewood Park and two at Lake Highlands Park. Each tennis court can fit two pickleball courts, which would create eight courts between the two locations.

The lines would be painted on underutilized tennis courts and would be accessible to both tennis players and pickleballers.

As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, the petition had 155 signatures, with a goal of reaching 400.

Dozens of neighbors responded with positive comments ranging from, “Very small investment with a big return” to “Pickleball is great for all ages — seniors to youth. This will be great addition for neighborhoods.”
