A falling tree at Norbuck Park put a marathon runner out of practice for two weeks.

Alfonzo Gonzalez Jr. left his friends from the Nomad Running Society, a long-distance running group, and was almost to his car at about 8 a.m. Monday. He heard cracking and threw himself away from his car, which the falling tree smashed.

Gonzalez’s car was only two weeks old, and his insurance company is working with the City of Dallas to find a resolution for the injury and damage. While his car is completely totaled, he left the incident with deep cuts and bruises on his right leg. He won’t be able to run for two weeks.

“If I had hopped in my car right away and turned the music on, that tree would’ve fell on top of me and broken my back or killed me,” Gonzalez said.
