Flooding isn’t the only problem that the rain (which, by the way, seems never-ending this weekend) is causing.

Here’s another reason to curse this weather: flies, lots and lots of flies.

You’ve probably seen more annoying insects than usual, especially near White Rock Lake and White Rock Creek. According to the Observer, we have no reason to panic.

Mike Merchant, a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service urban entomologist, told the publication that flies are attracted to wet conditions.

“Maybe the rain and some of the weather fronts that have been coming through is causing people to notice more of them,” he said. “They need moisture, so that could be a contributing factor to them being here in large numbers.”

As soon as conditions improve, the flies will stop being so frisky. In the meanwhile, make sure to pick up dog poop and clean up the trash, which flies unfortunately also enjoy.
