Wildcat water polo 2018
Did you know Lake Highlands High School has a water polo team? If you’re surprised, you’re not alone – and that’s the problem, say athletes and team boosters. Water polo is not recognized as a Texas UIL (University Interscholastic League) sport, so it doesn’t have the structure or financial support which keep other sports thriving.
A petition effort to encourage the UIL to sanction water polo in Texas seeks to change that. You may sign it here.
High school water polo in Texas began at the grass roots level and has grown to more than 250 teams with 100 schools participating in high school club programs. Becoming UIL-endorsed, say backers, will help provide safe, supervised programs with equal access for all student athletes.
In the meantime, the Wildcat team is working double-time to fund their program, with upcoming fundraisers at Chick-fil-A on Northwest Highway and Skillman March 30th all day, Grub Burger Bar on Greenville Avenue the week of April 2-8, and Shady’s Burgers April 12th from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

The girls’ team plays at 9:15 and 11:30, the boys’ JV plays at 12:15 and 2:30, and the boys’ varsity competes at 8:30 and 1 p.m. Go Cats!
