LHHS English teacher Dante Schmidt was arrested Tuesday on child porn charges
Lake Highlands High School English teacher Dante Pinto Schmidt, 41, was arrested early Tuesday for possession of child pornography. Schmidt, a 3-year LHHS employee, resigned later that day.
Officials say the charges stem from an ongoing investigation by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office and Plano Police, who obtained information that Schmidt was downloading and sharing child porn. They executed a search warrant on his Allen residence Monday night and arrested him at his home Tuesday.
LHHS Principal Dr. Joshua Delich shared the information in a letter sent home to parents and noted that police indicated the charge does not involve students at LHHS or RISD. Nothing of this nature has been alleged about Schmidt during his time at LHHS, Delich wrote.
Schmidt taught senior English at LHHS and led the Wildcat Debate team. He was named Instructor of the Year by the Texas OnRamps program at the University of Texas just a few months ago.
