That December day of gift giving is closing in on you — have you finished your shopping yet? Don’t worry, we’re not sending you to the godforsaken mall, OK? Though we cannot promise there will not be a crowd. This Saturday, head over to Good Local Flea at Half Price Books at 5803 Northwest Highway for an amazing array of arts, crafts, jewelry, scarves, soaps, ceramics and more. The indoor market is an offshoot of Vickery Meadows’ regular Good Local Market and it only lasts from 3-9 p.m. Entrance is free.

Santa is hungry, and he has a reservation at JJ’s Cafe, 10233 Northwest Highway, this Saturday. From 9 a.m.-3 p.m., neighborhood kids are invited to join Santa for photos. Adults, share a mimosa and door prizes. Anniversary cake, celebrating JJ’s five official years in business, will be served while it lasts.

The Episcopal Church of the Ascension at 8787 Greenville this Sunday evening hosts its annual live nativity from 5-8 p.m. Performances of the nativity story start at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Between performances, meet the church’s cast of characters, pet the animals, join in arts and crafts projects or enjoy dinner (or just a snack) from participating food trucks.

The Kathy Burks Theatre of Puppetry Arts takes on Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s classic, The Nutcracker, for the 20th year at the Dallas Children’s Theater, spinning the tale with an age-old art form: puppets.
