Lake Highlands Women’s League members have unveiled the four houses to be featured on this year’s Holiday in the Highlands home tour, and, as usual, they’ve found a mix of form, style and LH geography.

“The key to our continued success is the generosity of our neighbors who open their homes each year,” says Debbie Alspaw, co-chair of LHWL’s 38th annual event. “Our committee has been hard at work over the summer, and we are in full swing to have the best home tour ever.”

You’ll have to wait until Friday, December 2nd to view the architectural creations, to see how the homes are decorated for the holidays and to hear background stories from LHWL docents. Until then, here’s a sneak peek.

Megan and Doug Gearing, 9552 Highedge

Doug grew up in Lake Highlands and his parents still live in the neighborhood. Megan’s sister and her husband, Kerri and Paul Broome, also live in LH, and the Gearing children attend White Rock Elementary. They say they love LH for its young families and close knit community. Their newly built two-story is by Coats Homes.

Jenny and Derek Kellogg, 6807 Hyde Park Drive

Derek, a creative designer, and Jenny, a realtor, own Richland Renovations. Although they’ve spent years moving from one renovation to the next, they say they love this ranch house and are likely to stay. They have two daughters.

Gayle and Bryan McCrory, 10905 Cactus Lane

Gayle McCrory, a sustaining member of Women’s League, has lived in this home with husband, Bryan, for more than 30 years, and their married sons graduated from Wallace, LHJH and LHHS. The cottage home is decorated with sentimental detail and reclaimed style.

Robin and Kelly Crawford, 10025 Estate

Robin Crawford, former LHWL home tour chair, and Kelly have been in their Mark Dann-built two-story for almost 2 years. If you’ve shopped at Robin’s booth at City View Antique Mall, you may recognize some of her antiquing finds and appreciate her family treasures.

A “bonus home” this year will be a Playhouse with a Purpose, to be raffled and taken home by a lucky winner. This mini modern house was designed for LHWL by LH resident Raymond Harris and his staff of young architects at RHA Architects and will be built by Dwight Henneberger, owner of Henneberger Construction.

“Two of my favorite days of the year are our annual Holiday in the Highlands Home Tour and our scholarship presentation in May,” says Melissa Hood, president of LHWL. “Those days are possible because of the gracious hospitality of our homeowners, the generosity of our sponsors and the support of our wonderful community. We invite everyone to join us on December 2nd as we celebrate the 38th annual tour. The proceeds from this festive community event benefit neighborhood schools and charitable organizations as well as providing scholarships for many deserving Lake Highlands High School seniors. I can’t think of a better way to kick off the season of giving than by attending such a wonderful fun-filled event that gives so much back to our community.”

Home Tour Co-Chair Tina Cox agrees.

“Lake Highlands Women’s League members are dedicated to improving our community,” says Tina, “with our service, sponsorship and aid to our neighborhood charities.”

Tickets for the tour, the raffle and the Friday luncheon will be available soon on the LHWL website and from LHWL members.
