Lake Highlands was well represented at the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas “Women of Distinction” luncheon Friday, which recognized honorees working to mentor and inspire the 26,000 area girls participating. When Mistress of Ceremonies Clarice Tinsley, anchor at Fox 4 news, asked for a showing of attendees who had enjoyed scouting themselves, several LH residents stood with pride.
“I was a Girl Scout and have such great memories of the friendships made within our troop and at camp,” said Jennifer Normile, “so I knew I wanted to make sure my daughter had the same opportunity. “Now I lead Troop 2102, which is a group of 18 first graders at White Rock Elementary. I wanted to make sure my daughter had the same opportunity. We focus on building girls of courage, confidence and character to be tomorrow’s leaders. Even though the organization is over 100 years old, the mission of Girl Scouts is still relevant for girls today.”
Marianne Staubach, wife of Dallas Cowboys legendary quarterback Roger Staubach, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the luncheon, and Sarah Losinger and Trea Yip were named Women of Distinction. Current scouts Hailey Failes and Anisha Wadawadigi were honored as Young Women of Distinction and Kent Eastman was named “Man Enough to Be A Girl Scout.” Lauren Bush Lauren, model, designer and founder of FEED projects, gave the inspirational keynote speech.
