A teenager has been arrested for capital murder in connection to the shooting death of Julio Gerardo de la Rosa, 18, who was killed along with 19-year-old Derek Jordan on March 28 in what police said was a drug deal gone bad. Matthew Deshon Robinson, 19, was arrested yesterday following a traffic stop in Natchitoches, La.

According to the police warrant, which you can read below, de la Rosa used the messaging app Kik to arrange a drug deal with Robinson and Jordan, who were to buy marijuana from him at the La Brisas Apartments on Whitehurst Drive. De la Rosa and a witness, whose name is understandably redacted from all reports, sat waiting in a blue Chevy Tahoe around 12:30 a.m. when Jordan approached and opened the rear passenger door. He refused to get in the car as asked, instead asking to inspect the marijuana.

The witness reported that he got nervous when a beam of light lit up the car’s interior, fearing they were about to get robbed. Then a bullet pierced the windshield, hitting de la Rosa in the chest. The witness reported that he felt his life was in danger and began shooting at Jordan, who died at the scene.

The witness was able to drive to Royal Lane, where he pulled over and called 911. De la Rosa was transported to Presbyterian Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Robinson fled the scene, and seemingly the state, but a warrant was put out for his arrest. Robinson is being held on $500,000 bail in Louisiana pending extradition.

It is unclear if the witness will be charged with the shooting death of Jordan.
